We stumbled across Crystle’s Instagram and were instantly addicted. She is a beautiful plus-size model who is loving life in her city.
We were impressed with how she embraces her body type and doesn’t apologize for her curves.
If you’re also looking for a woman who is confident in every way, give Crystle a follow—she’s worth it!
We’ve got an exclusive interview.
Crystle, do you think that for women, in particular, body confidence is still an issue?
Crystle: Of course! But, I feel like as a woman that is confident now in how I look, showing this to other women and also not allowing fashion “rules” to dictate what I wear, other women are exploring and seeing themselves in a new light too.
It’s through my confidence that they’re becoming more comfortable stepping out and loving themselves too! It’s a perception change!
Do you feel that public perception of plus models and plus fashion has changed?
Crystle: Yes. But also no. It IS changing and shifting weather or not people’s perception has changed. I think the more we put ourselves out there the bigger a shift of perception will happen.
What is your motivation for being a model/Influencer?
Crystle: Experiences. 1,000% of the time. Anytime I’m sent items to collab it inspires my ideas for a shoot. Maybe I’m even asked to travel.
Perhaps I get to tell a story or share my life experiences with others. It’s all a fun adventure I’m having in every aspect of it.
What do you hope will happen in the future for plus size models and their representation in the
Crystle: That we see more of it, and I do believe that we are seeing that shift happening. It’s a slow
Process and companies are finally adding extended sizing (finally)! So, with that, those companies will need to show us in their ads and marketing so they can have our business.
We need to see the clothing on our shapes and body sizes to know if it works well.
What would you say is your personal style?
Crystle: I’m very into bohemian styles and vintage looks right now. I kinda always have been but there is now clothing that fits my plus size body in that type of style.
But I love doing so many things that it’s hard to say one, but that’s been a constant in my wardrobe as soon as I was able to have it.
If you could change one fashion rule, what would it be and why?
Crystle: Not to have rules and see what happens when everyone feels like they have creative freedom. What ideas can come from that idea of there are no rules. If everyone is the same, it’s boring. Don’t fit in, stand out boldly. So, to answer that, I wish I could change there not being rules.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? Did you have an “I did it” moment?
Crystle: YES! When I was chosen to be a model for a jewelry and clothing brand and went to LA for a shoot. That was my first “let’s scream” moment!
I was representing the plus size ladies in a diversity campaign. I got to do a walk-on video and it felt like all those times you pretend to walk on a cat walk as a little girl and teen finally coming to realization.
What’s something surprising about plus-size modeling that people might not know?
Crystle: It takes a long long time each week picking out locations for outfits, putting things together, shopping, making sure things are shot in a specific timeline, social media, and promotion, reaching out to companies, and remembering to reach back out to them. Ironing things it’s a lot of behind-the-scenes when you’re doing social media modeling that I think people see me make it look easy and it’s not. I have a lot going on every day to make this all work and look that way. It’s all incredible at the end of the day & I love it.
How would you define the word “confidence”?
Crystle: For me, it’s loving myself on the outside and the inside. I’ve done healing work from traumas and I surround myself with positive people that also exude confidence. I’ve learned a lot from them but also from myself. I found out who I am and at 40 years in the making can finally say I love myself. All of it. I think that what shines through, I’m proud of myself & I am treating myself like my own BFF.
It’s a great place to be in and I wish that for everyone.
